Most problems are one of these. If you're still stuck, contact your organiser: their details are at the bottom of your presenter page.
The camera or microphone is blocked
If you said no when your browser asked, or it didn't ask:
- Chrome or Edge: click the camera icon (or the settings icon) at the left of the address bar, allow the camera and microphone, then reload the page.
- Safari: choose Safari › Settings for this website and allow the camera and microphone, then reload.
Also close other apps that might be using the camera, such as Teams or Zoom, and check the camera is picked in the device check.
No sound
See If you can't hear the test sound in the device check guide.
The device check works, but I can't connect to the studio
Your camera and microphone are fine, so it's usually the network:
- Switch off any VPN, and close other video apps.
- Try a different network, such as home broadband or your phone's hotspot. If it works there, your usual network is blocking the connection.
- On a company network, ask your IT team to allow the studio connection (for vMix Call, the requirements are below).
vMix Call network requirements
If your studio connection is vMix Call, vMix publishes these firewall requirements:
| For | Protocol and port | Direction |
|---|---|---|
| Website (HTTPS) | TCP 443 | Outbound |
| STUN | UDP 3478 | Outbound |
| TURN relay | TCP 80 and 10349 | Outbound |
| Video and audio (WebRTC) | UDP 49152–65535 | Inbound |
With only TCP 443, 80 and 10349 open, vMix Call can still connect through vMix's relay servers, but the quality may be lower. vMix doesn't publish its servers' IP addresses, as they change, so the ports need allowing rather than specific addresses. Source: vMix Call firewall requirements.
"This link isn't active"
- The event hasn't started yet: links open a couple of days before the event. The page says when.
- The event has finished, or the organiser has switched the link off.
- The link has been replaced: the organiser may have sent you a new one. Check your messages, or ask them.
"Waiting for the studio"
That's normal: the studio hasn't connected you yet, perhaps because it's not your turn. Leave the page open: it connects by itself as soon as they're ready for you. Meanwhile you can still see the studio's messages and countdown, and check your camera, mic and speakers.
The slide clicker says "Session paused"
That's only the slide clicker: the slides aren't taking presses right now. Your studio connection isn't affected. Ask the studio if you need it.
